About Me
Sarah Loeb earned her Bachelor of Arts and a Masters Degree in Education from Sarah Lawrence College where she worked alongside master teachers in the Reggio Emilia based Early Childhood Center Lab School. Her career continued in Manhattan teaching Kindergarten, first grade and third grade in the New York City Department of Education public school system. Driven to apply her educational philosophies to an unfamiliar community, Sarah then accepted a position as an early childhood specialist to train teachers and implement play based curriculum to a public school in Southeast India.
Upon returning to the United States, Sarah moved to Los Angeles and began work at Evergreen Community School, a renowned constructivist preschool in Santa Monica. She was invigorated by the depth and genuine search for best practice that the staff prioritized. There, she continued to refine her teaching practice and took on a leadership role as a representative of the school to visiting educators.
She was then recruited by the Pedagogical Institute of Los Angeles to establish a play space for refugee children and their mothers in Lesvos, Greece. In addition to hands on work with the children, she trained local staff to facilitate the space and was able to implement systems to keep the program running.
After that, Sarah pursued the opportunity to work as a Kindergarten teacher in the Los Angeles Public School System. The school was longing to offer play-based opportunities to their young students and hired Sarah to implement a new way of educating to a traditionally-minded community.
Her teaching practice is rooted in the belief that all children are capable learners and creators. Children have differentiating needs and strengths, and it is the teacher’s responsibility to accommodate and cherish her students for their individuality. Her role is to construct and facilitate a learning environment and experience that offer materials and innovative resources that will lead the child to thoughtful inquiry and investigations. It is these questions, born out of true inquiry, that lead to learning. Inquiry is the starting place for any worthy curriculum.
Sarah’s vast experiences have fueled her passion for working with young children. Sarah considers herself a life-long learner and is passionately committed to this field and is constantly inspired by the joy and hope that children bring her.
Sarah is the owner and head of school at Misty Wagon Schoolhouse which opened its doors in September of 2021 which serves children 2.5 years old to 6 years old. The schoolhouse is located in Glendale, California.
